Botanical Dyeing Workshop - November 17th

Come and join us at our sun filled studio at The Abbotsford Convent, and learn how to create sustainable dyes from plants, that we can easily find around us and in our kitchens.

In this workshop you will learn how to achieve a beautiful colour palette naturally, and we will cover the basics from choosing which plants to use, and how we can extract colour from them through bundle dyeing and dye baths. You will also learn how to prepare fabric and yarn for dyeing, and different mordants and modifiers we can use in the process.

You will take home a collection of samples of fabric we will dye together, a finished piece, and the knowledge to continue your experiments at home.

Please bring an apron or clothes you don’t mind staining and a notebook and pen. You can also bring your own lunch, or alternatively get something at one of the cafes at the Convent.

This workshop is taught by the lovely Teresa Nunes who combines a love of ceramics & botanical dyeing in her work and has an extensive teaching background.

All other materials will be provided, plus morning tea.
